ARMED FORCES DAY RECEPTION IN PARIS
A reception to celebrate the 73rd Malaysian Armed Forces Day was hosted by H.E. Dato’ S. Thanarajasingam, Ambassador of Malaysia to France, Captain Musa Omar, Defence Attaché of the Embassy of Malaysia to France and his wife, Puan Zainon Ahmad, at the Concorde Lafayette Hotel on Wednesday, 8 November 2006. The reception was held not only to celebrate the Armed Forces Day but also to pay tribute to the military who sacrificed their lives in the course of duty.
One hundred guests attended the function, among whom many Defence Attachés of various embassies such as Russia, Sweden, Thailand or Morocco. Many senior officials of the French Defence Ministry took part in the event, as well as top executives of the French Defence industries, on account of the strong bilateral ties existing between France and Malaysia in this sector. Malaysia has indeed purchased two submarines from France and Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) officers are currently undergoing a submarine training in the French maritime towns of Cherbourg and Brest.
The Armed Forces Day reception in Paris was also the last chance for the Armed Forces fraternity to bid farewell to Captain Musa Omar and his wife, who are leaving France on Friday. Furthermore, it was an opportunity for the new Defence Attaché, Captain Khairuddin bin Mohd. Arif, to meet the Defence community in Paris.
